Things I Want:
-A light over the sink - We currently have one not-very-pretty-or-effective lighting fixture in the middle of the kitchen. When doing dishes, you're facing away from the light. So, I pretty much have to make sure I wash dishes when it's still daylight out, so I can actually see what I'm doing. I'd like to be able to do the dishes either at night or during the day. (Pendants or recessed? Some of both?)
-A light/hood over the stove - The same thing as above applies
-A magnetic strip on the wall above the stove for often-used utensils and knives - this would get them off the counter and prevent me from having to rifle through a drawer full of random utensils in order to find the one thing I'm looking for.
-Somewhere to store pans that isn't in the oven - like perhaps a cupboard or cabinet of some sort. At least I'm now used to it and don't bake the stack of pans every single time I pre-heat the oven.
-A garbage disposal - would make life so much simpler
-A wine cooler - They look cool and are very useful. We'd be able to store wine somewhere and not have to figure out special ways to fit the bottles in the fridge.
-A farmhouse sink? - I love the look of them, but am not sure if it will work with the overall look of our new kitchen, whatever that may be.
-**DISHWASHER** - I miss apartment living for one reason only...the dishwasher. I hate doing dishes. With a passion. Partially because my left hand gets tired and sore quite easily, so I have to wash a few things, rinse them, dry them, and then take a break to rest my hand. I'd like one that has a stainless steel interior (because plastic would discolor due to our craptastic water), a built-in grinder/garbage disposal and a water jet to get big chunky things off the dishes.
-Slate tile floor - to replace the disgusting carpet, which is currently covering the ugliest linoleum ever made. Slate tiles are actually purchased and sitting in a stack in the garage.
-Radiant floor heating? - would work quite well with the slate tile and might make our house even more energy-efficient.
-An oven with a window in the front and a light inside - so I no longer have to keep opening the oven door and letting hot air out to check on whatever I'm baking.
-An oven with a glass cooktop - I love the idea of water boiling in 90 seconds. It's also MUCH easier to clean than our current stove.
-Countertops and a sink that are actually at a good height for me - One of the (many) reasons I hate doing dishes is that our sinks are so freaking low that I basically have to hunch over the entire time I'm doing dishes. If I have a lot of dishes to do, that's like an hour and 45 minutes spent hunching over. OUCH.
-Two separate drawers for kitchen utensils - One drawer for things that will hurt if you accidentally grab them while looking for something else (stabby things) and another for things that won't hurt if you accidentally grab them (non-stabby things).
