Our new addition...

TheMister and I added a new member to our family today!

How did it happen?

Well, we went to Pet Supplies Plus on Westnedge to buy bird seed for our backyard bird feeders...and the SPCA was having a mobile adoption. We ended up seeing this puppy there. He was the runt (and probably the Omega) of the litter, and his brothers were walking on him and biting him and generally just being not very nice to him. He was just sitting there quietly. And he was freaking adorable. So, I asked if I could hold him. As soon as the lady put him in my arms, the puppy snuggled up to me, tucked his head under my chin and just sat there quietly. I held him for like 45 minutes while my husband and I tried to decide if we wanted to get a puppy and if the timing was right. I kept trying not to fall in love with him, but it was pretty much impossible. He kept snuggling closer to me and looking at me very sweetly.

I said, "I love him!"

TheMister said, "I love him, too!"

I said, "We can't both love him! Who will stop us from adopting him?!?"

As it turned out, no one did. TheMister and I wanted to buy the bird seed we were there to get while we thought about buying him for a few more minutes, so we put him back down into the kennel with his brothers. As soon as we put him down, these two girls asked to see him. While we were at the cash register, the puppy's foster mom came over to let us know that the girls who asked to hold him after us were going to try to adopt him. She said if we were at all interested in adopting him, we should fill out a pre-application...SOON.

So, while my husband finished paying for the bird seed, I went outside to frantically scrawl the answers to 4 pages of information and questions. I won the paperwork race, we were approved within a few minutes and about 20 minutes later, we had adopted him.

His name is Sawyer. It's the name the shelter gave him and we couldn't think of anything better, so we kept it. He's some sort of mixed breed (mutt), which probably includes Australian Shepherd and/or Sheltie. He's got one all-blue eye and one mostly-brown with a tiny part of blue eye. He's grey and white and blue merle, with soft and fuzzy fur and a totally naked belly. He looks quite like a wolf in profile. He's 8 weeks old, about 5 lbs. and so much like a baby it's crazy.

He's currently taking his pre-bedtime nap. Before he takes a nap, he gets all whiny and feisty and bitey...basically full of piss and vinegar. TheChild used to get like that when she got tired before a nap, except not so much with the biting.

He's adorable. We love him.

And now you can too...

Enjoy the pictures!
